The Downtown School: A Lakeside School is an independent, co-educational high school located near Seattle Center. Opening in fall 2018, the school will offer a high-quality academic education to a diverse body of academically talented students. The Downtown School is affiliated with Lakeside School, a national leader in independent school education. The curriculum of The Downtown School combines some of the best aspects of Lakeside School’s high-quality academic program with special programs and features that are unique to the new school.

The Downtown School will be a tight-knit community. With full enrollment, the school will serve 160 students in grades 9-12. Students will work closely with a core group of teachers who have outstanding experience and credentials, as well as a passion for educating young people. Through relationships with organizations and businesses around the city, students at The Downtown School will use the city as a lab, forging connections with the greater community and developing a deeper understanding of who they are and what they can accomplish.

The academic program focuses on developing critical and creative thinkers who can communicate and interact effectively. Engaging and relevant to students, the courses emphasize active learning and prompt students to take intellectual risks; engage in self-reflection; identify goals and strategies for personal development; use feedback effectively; and transfer skills from one context to another. Students will “learn how to learn” so they can prepare for a future in which rapid change is the norm.
